Method 1: sort the cards from number 1 to 44 to learn them in alphabetical order. As you work through them, place cards that you remember in a pile to your left. Cards that you don’t recognise, put in a pile to your right. When you run out of cards, go through the right-hand pile again, separating them into left and right piles. Keep repeating this until you have no cards in the right-hand pile.
Method 2: shuffle the deck randomly to see if you can remember the letters out of sequence.
Method 3: sort the cards into their classes; middle, low and high. Learn the letters that are in each set – this will be useful later when you learn to read. This is best done once you’ve learned all the letters using methods 1 and 2.
Method 4: sort the letters by their ending group, so you can learn the ending sounds for each letter as well as its initial sound.
Method 5: select one vowel card, then try to say the word using each of the consonant cards, for example ก + อะ = กะ (Don’t worry that the words may be nonsense – we are only learning the sounds that each character makes.)

Method 1: sort the cards into pairs (as far as it is possible, as not all have pairs), then learn the sounds, long and short for each pair.
Method 2: select only the short vowels to see if you can recognise them.
Method 3: select only the long vowels to see if you can recognise them.
Method 4: shuffle the cards to see if you can recognise them randomly.
Method 5: select one consonant card, then try to say the words using each of the vowel cards, for example อา + ป = ปา (As before, don’t worry that the words may be nonsense – we are only learning the sounds that each character makes.)
combination cards

Method 1: there is no order or pairs to the combinations, so they can only be learned randomly.
Method 2: select one consonant card, then try to say the words using each of the combination cards, for example อัย + ป = ปัย (The words you make will almost certainly be nonsense, but it’s the sounds that are important.)
numeral cards
There are 10 numeral cards denoted by a blue corner flash.

Method 1: learn the numerals in order.
Method 2: practise reading them in random order.
Method 3: put two, three or four cards in front of you to make a larger number, then see if you can read it.
